Make your own flavored creamers

Do you still take flavored creamer in your coffee?

Do you know a popular store-bought brand contains:  PARTIALLY HYDROGENATED SOYBEAN AND/OR COTTONSEED OIL, SODIUM CASEINATE, DIPOTASSIUM PHOSPHATE, DISODIUM PHOSPHATE, MONO- AND DIGLYCERIDES, NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL FLAVORS, CELLULOSE GEL, CELLULOSE GUM, COLOR ADDED, CARRAGEENAN.

Flavored creamers have some scary ingredients indeed and notice it does not even contain cream. To avoid consuming these questionable products it’s really simple to just make your own. I set out to make a non-toxic, real and organic flavored coffee creamer.  And here are some of the recipes that we have come up with to make our morning coffee a little jazzed up and special.

I find those artificial sweeteners sickeningly sweet and totally out of my realm of consumption. Which points out another advantage of making your own flavored creamers- you control the sweetness level.  I add the sugar amounts in the recipes to suit my tastes. But, I personally don’t like my coffee to be so sweet.

So play around with the recipe and add more or less sweeteners or cream you prefer until you get that perfect concoction to meat your flavoring needs.  And also use the sweetener you prefer: coconut sugar, maple syrup, honey, stevia, xylitol, raw sugar.

In these recipes, what I mean by “cream” is whatever you typically use in your coffee. For example instead of buying prepackaged flavored coffee creamers, you can use these recipes to make your own flavored cream out of: organic coconut milk, coconut creamer, whole milk, half and half, almond milk, hemp milk, goat milk etc. into a flavored option. So “cream” in the recipe means whatever lightener you plan to use in your coffee.

Just mix these up the night before in a small container, let flavors meld together, and give a jar a good shake the next morning before pouring into your coffee. Bottoms up!

***SWEET TREAT ALERT! You can also use these recipes with heavy cream to make flavored whipped creams to top of your coffee, hot cacao, desserts etc.***

At home recipes-

French vanilla:

4 cups cream

1/4 cup coconut sugar or turbinado sugar

1/4 cup honey or maple syrup

2 Tbsp. real vanilla extract

*A pinch of real vanilla bean

Combine sugar, maple syrup, and vanilla extract in a sauce pan over low heat, stirring occasionally until sugar is melted.  Don’t overcook or let get too bubbly or it will start to solidify and you won’t be able to use it in your creamer.

Pour cream into container and add in your sugar mixture.  Shake it up and store in fridge.
