DIY Citrus Vinegar Cleaner

This is a must try: not only do you recycle peels and upcycle an old cleaning bottle, you will be able to breathe easy knowing you don’t have toxic chemicals looming underneath your sink– you never want a reason to call poison control?

When life hands you lemons use them up and save the peel. Citrus peel infused vinegar for cleaning is amazing.

This is a must try: not only is this a great way to use discarded citrus peels, it is  cost effective and you will be able to breathe easy knowing that you don’t have toxic chemicals looming in your all purpose cleaning spray. Especially with little ones running around looking to put anything in their mouth ?

Citrus Vinegar Cleaner-

To make this homemade, non-toxic, all-purpose cleaner you need to keep the peels from any citrus fruit you consume: grapefruit, oranges, limes, lemons or a combination of several works well to infuse into vinegar and all citrus smell beautiful.

Steps:

  • Save citrus peels in fridge until you have enough to fill a quart jar.
  • In jar cover citrus peels completely with vinegar.  (Raw apple cider or white are good choices.)
  • Allow the closed mixture to sit for two weeks, shake or stir around occasionally.
  • Strain vinegar and pour mixture into empty spray bottle.  Dilute 1:1 citrus vinegar to water.
  • Use as a great all-purpose cleaner. Happy Cleaning!!

*Optional-

For an extra burst of scent add in a couple drops of sweet orange, lemon or tangerine essential oil 

Be judicious with essential oil use, a drop or two is fine but too much can degrade plastic and cause irritation when it comes in contact with skin.

Do not use the citrus cleaner on granite counters.

A great spray bottle can be made by upcycling an old Perrier bottle and turning into a spray bottle.
