We live in a toxic world. there are nasties everywhere: from chemicals in the air we breathe, the food we eat, and the water we drink and bathe in. The body is constantly working to eliminate the toxins going in but it can only filter out so much at a time. When we put in more toxins than what the body can process they accumulate and get stored in fat cells. These toxic cells have a detrimental effect on the way we feel and look and cause the body to be in a state of dis-ease.
It is important to be conscious of what goes in your body. Detoxifying becomes easier as you lighten up the toxic load you are taking in. If you’re not putting in as many new toxins then your body can start dispelling old toxins. When the organs of elimination aren’t overrun with new toxins the body gets a jump start on burning more fat, helping to regulate your hormones and revving your metabolism into high gear. Moreover, toxins found in the body are found and stored on your fat cells, so you will always be carrying toxins until you lose the fat the contains the toxins.
Detoxing is the process of eliminating toxins from the body- cleaning impurities from the blood and the colon. There are numerous ways to help your body eliminate toxins:
- Raw nutrients (organic fruits and vegetables–especially leafy greens, garlic, ginger, turmeric)
- Herbs (cinnamon, cayenne pepper, basil, oregano, parsley)
- Drinks (pure water, freshly juiced fruits, vegetables and wheat grass)
- Dry brushing your skin
- Oil pulling with an organic carrier oil
- Using certain clays (calcium bentonite/French)
- Increasing your fiber content (chia seeds, psyillium husks, flax seed)
- Sweating in a sauna/during exercise
Remember… too much of a good thing is not always a good thing. There is such a thing as detoxing too hard. If you eat a diet of all fruits and vegetables or do a juice fast this will make your body start expelling toxins rapidly. The process of detoxing can make you feel sluggish and worn down; so it is a good idea to take it slow. This especially applies if you’re pregnant or nursing. You would not want to kick up too many old toxins at once or you’ll feel like crap.
There are so many environmental pollutants so even healthy eaters should have a good detox regimen. This could be a 21- day raw vegan fast or a juicing fast. Think of this as part of good general maintenance. Your body will thank you
